Are you booting from SCSI or Ethernet ? IIRC the 4200 has ethernet
onboard (but not SCSI).

So if you boot from SCSI, maybe you could try netbooting over the
built-in ethernet with no SCSI VME installed ?
(or disabling SCSI support completely in the kernel).
