dynamically linked binaries in both /bin and /sbin are linked against libs in /lib not /usr/lib. thus if only /usr/lib was removed, /bin/pax should still work fine. /rescue is still awesome for many reasons. it actually makes it possible to recover these sorts of problems way faster than without. .mrg.
