The only 3 slot SBus framebuffer I'm aware of is some Matrox piece -
is that what it is? I can't find anything with that part number.
Either way, being NetBSD's more or less official graphics driver guy
I'm interested in this one.

Hey Mr. graphic driver guy ;-) - i laughed out loud!
Should be this item: http://www.memoryxsun.com/3701370.html

Yeah, that's it.

The part number i gave isn't really in the trad. Sun format (XXX- XXXX) --
i was just reading it off of the bar code.

I think Michael is correct -- the circuit board actually says "matrox" on it. But the tag with the Sun-ish part number on it looks very similar to
those tags of that era. Maybe a re-badged part?

Underneath matrox, it says:

SG3-1152B/BASE 0385-06-02
Made in Canada copyright 1990

Ah, so it /is/ a Matrox part. Hopefully it's one of their PCI or VLB chips behind some SBus glue, if that's the case there's a chance to get it supported for more than just a dumb framebuffer.

have fun
