Thank you for the response. I checked netstat -rn and found the default
gateway was correct. I had just edited my sysctl.conf file:

net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
kern.maxfiles=1968

#vfs.nfs.iothreads=4

And rebooted. Now I am able to FTP out and get web pages off my netBSD box!
And although it is working correctly, I am not 100% certain why.

Interesting. Can you run "netstat -rn" and see what it thinks
your default route is? For instance, on my box it says:

> Routing tables
>
> Internet:
> Destination        Gateway            Flags     Refs     Use    Mtu
Interface
> default            209.157.144.49     UGS        11  1651293      -  le0
> [snip snip]

And 209.157.144.49 is, in fact, the correct address of my gateway.
