It works for me.  I hooked up a spare disk and added a RAID partition:

 d:   4712000   4712000       RAID                     # (Cyl.   1000 -   1999)

and booted from:

  /sbus/dma/esp/sd@2,0:d

(SS20 with 2nd SCSI controller).  Extracts from the boot messages:

  Booting netbsd
  Trying RAID offset (64)

  root on raid1a dumps on raid1b
  root file system type: ffs

Note that this partition starts 2.3GB into the disk, but the SS20 won't boot
from the following partition (starting at 4.7GB).
