  [scheme48 on 64-bit hard]

Therefore the simpliest solution from my POV was to run the sparc port
  on my Ultra10.

That sounds sensible, and I have two other thoughts:

guile seems to at least mostly work on 64-bit systems, to the point
where some bugs are being talked about, rather than complete
nonfunctionality.

You could run NetBSD/sparc64 on the ultra, and build scheme48 on
NetBSD/sparc and then run the binary with netbsd_compat32(8).
