Your very first stop, I would suggest should be 
http://www.ids.org.au/main/tutorials/vi_tutorial.php   ........
regardless of which BSD you use. 
Next Stop which will definately work is 
http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/sparc/ oh looky on the right side of the 
page....

I personally have had 2x SS20 which I ran Netbsd on, with almost no 
problems whatsoever.
