Here's a dumb question.  Is it possible the MAKEDEV and kernel are out
of sync with respect to the major and minor numbers of the /dev/random
device?  I believe you can see the numbers in the conf.c file in the build
directory of a configured kernel, before you compile it.

Just a thought.
