Well, I think the problem got introduced between 09/14/2004 and 09/24/2004.

Also, this seems to be somewhat related to MP kernels. I'm currrently running
3.99.7 GENERIC kernel, but whenever I change to GENERIC.MP I get the
segfaults.

IIRC, I can run 2.0G GENERIC.MP quite well.
