I don't realy know - I use

CFLAGS+= -mv8 -mtune=supersparc

in /etc/mk.conf and have

makeoptions     COPTS="-mcpu=supersparc -O2"

in my kernel config, oops - will replace that with -mv8 -mtune=supersparc too.
