[Thus spake matthew green ("mg: ") Apr 22...]

mg: use gdb to convert these addresses (f0xxxxxx) into function/line
mg: numbers with a netbsd.gdb version of the kernel. then you can
mg: create an entire stack trace.

Still need to do this, but...

More data:

Same problem (watchdog reset with qfe).
Cross-compiling on new machine (p4, no optimizations during building).
Kernel version (2.0_STABLE vs. 3.99.x) does not matter, for all
practical purposes.

The problem does not occur if the qfe is replaced with an hme.
Unplugging the card from the network does not help.

The problem also does not occur with a kernel obtained from the
netbsd ftp site as part of the official release. This is really
stumping me.

I'm taking a guess, but the power manglement might be interfering
with the qfe. I'll try that tonight.

[on the plus side, the new p4 machine will build me a kernel inside
a minute and a half...]

hey there.

Doesn't matter if the kernel is custom or generic.
When I boot it, I get

TTTTTTT+DDDDDDD+BBBBBBB[+ddddddd+bbbbbb]
and the two copyright notices, then

Watchdog Reset
Program Terminated
ok

machine is a:

SPARCstation 5, No Keyboard
ROM Rev. 2.29, 256 MB memory installed, Serial #9331973.
Ethernet address 8:0:20:8e:65:5, Host ID: 808e6505.

I have a QFE/Sbus installed, X1049A. One interface is connected
to a 10/100 n-way switch, the other three are not connected and have
no cables in them. My le0 is connected to the same switch.

[QFE == 4 x hme]

Upon talking on the IRC channel, the conjecture is a hardware timer
somewhere, likely related to initialising the QFE.

A 2.x release kernel will boot, but ipf fails of course. I don't have
2.x userland, only 1.6 and 3.99.x -- the latter of which causes everything
run to dump core.

What's changed?
