Just for info, I'm seeing:

  cpu0: NMI: system interrupts: 40000000<VME=0,SBUS=0,ME>
  module0:
          mxcc error 0xb30010002660780
          mxcc status 0x1e00700002
          mxcc reset 0x0

along with spontaneous reboots on a 20. I wondered if it was something to
do with running an MP kernel, but I still get them with a UP kernel and
also if I take the 2nd CPU out.

I thought I had a problem with the cg14, as the machine would crash or
reboot when I was trying to get the X server to work. However, I've just
acquired another 20 with a cg14 and this also crashes. Do you by any
chance have a cg14 in your 20?
