Sun's FAQ has an unfortuante tendency to assume you're running Solaris.

No. The cgsix cannot do deeper than 8bpp.

Some cgsixes can do other resolutions than 1152x900; some can't. Shut
down the OS, back to the PROM, then

ok cd /sbus/cgsix
ok words

If this produces no output, your cgsix is old, old enough that you can
forget about changing its resolution. If it includes words with names
like "r1600x1280x76" or "r1024x768x77", it should be possible to change
the resolution; I've never actually had any success trying to do so,
though. (In at least one case, I suspect this is because the monitor I
was using was single-frequency.)

The third number (76 and 77 in my examples above) is the vertical scan
frequency, not anything related to per-pixel depth.

You still won't get anything deeper than 8bpp, alas. Not from a cgsix.
