Hi,

I am trying to install NetBSD 1.6-RELEASE on a SPARCclassic. It has one
internal and one external SCSI disk. I'm netbooting the installer from a
FreeBSD/i386 machine.

During booting there are messages indicating that the kernel has found the
disks (see dmesg output below), however after I choose "Install NetBSD to
hard disk" from the installer menu I get the message "I can not find any hard
disks for use by NetBSD. You will be returned to the original menu.". I
have tried to read the disk labels from a shell with no luck:

# disklabel sd0
disklabel: ioctl DIOCGDINFO: Inappropriate ioctl for device
# disklabel sd1
disklabel: ioctl DIOCGDINFO: Inappropriate ioctl for device

The machine currently has Solaris 2.6 on it, which appears to boot fine
(i.e. the disks seem to be working).

I opened the box with the external drive in and from the model number
(Seagate ST11200N) it seems to be sd0 with sd1 presumably being the internal
drive.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Thanks,

Francis
