You can use ISO-style smartcards to identify yourself and return to a
"detached" session you started earlier (possibly on another
device). Sun sells simple ID cards to be given out to users, and the
new(ish) European Union personal ID smart cards also work. Probably
others too, I'm not familiar with what it requires of the card. My
student card didn't work, but given how gracefully the euro transition
was handled with those (it acts as a prepaid debit card) it's probably
not very smart at all (the transition apparently involved a sticker
with an euro sign on it).
