Linux on SPARC definitely uses the Sun disklabel. There is some 
incompatibility though. The *BSD disklabel program doesn't recognize the 
Linux filesystems types. When I was doing the install, both NetBSD and 
OpenBSD wanted to take those partitions. I was able to persuade NetBSD 
to create new partitions and install into them but only by marking the 
Linux partitions as empty. Debian doesn't have any trouble booting from 
those. But the Linux fdisk is a piece of junk and can't change the types 
back.
