Same thing, with 170MHz turboSPARC in an SS5:

compiler: cc -O2 -mcpu=supersparc  -Werror 
                  sign    verify    sign/s verify/s
dsa  512 bits   0.0379s   0.0465s     26.4     21.5
dsa 1024 bits   0.1180s   0.1482s      8.5      6.7

Not in line with the clock speed difference, so I guess this is due
mostly to the 512K of cache.
