actually not urban legend, fact.  but i'm not going to get into this yet again,
especially on a list that has seen this argument before.

wow.  i had no idea.  well that explains a couple things.  guy at work was
complaining about how crappy the performance of the IDE disk on his 5 and 10
were, now i can show him why.  so on that note, does anyone know of a good IDE
controller that is supported by Solaris 8?  he'd rather not go to SCSI if he
can help it.
