dear subscribers,

yesterday night i tested the hints you gave me and came to a working
solution.

modifying the console line in /etc/ttys to "...std.9600 vt100..." and after
logging in setting the shell session to "stty cols 20" and "stty rows 80"
(which is the same as the xterm i am running minicom in, i could verify that
with calling "stty -a" on the xterm) i suddenly was able to use "vi" without the
scrolling and cursor movement effect.

i want to thank you all and especially uwe for your immediate help and your
ongoing good work for the port-sparc and helping keeping it alive.

wish you all a nice day,

bye,

pappy
