Since pckbd driver is not working (for useful values of "working") on
both OBP2 and OBP3 machines and since on OBP3 prom console has so
painfully slow input that it's not really usable, I doubt that "out of
luck" is the right term.

Think positively.  OBP2 machines runs NetBSD/sparc since 1.5 without
any nasty hacks. ;-)
