does the sparc4 have ther right power-supply to do this? i seem to remember
that certain Sun workstations had the "soft" power suppplies but didn't have
the memory of the sparc5/20/etc. my sparc5 and sparc20s "remember" what state
they were in when then lose power, if they were off, then they stay off when
the power comes back on, but if they were on, then they turn on when the power
comes back.
i could pull the plug out of my LX and try that, i don't think it has the
memory, but i'm not going to. :) actually, i could probably do it from the
PROM so i don't damage the OS, since the PS has no clue about the PROM.
if you don't have the PS-memory, the best solution i've ever run across is to
get a paperclip or a piece of tape and make the power-on/off key on the
keyboard stay down. you may need to tell the OS to ignore the button so it
doesn't try shutting down, i forget, it's been a while since i saw this last.
if you're using a serial console i think you may be SOL. this is all assuming
the power-supply on the sparc4 is they way i think it is.
