let's get all the info we can here.  could you send the config files from
both machine, ssh2_config and sshd2_config.  and how was ssh2 installed on
these machines, and what exact version are we talking about here.  obviously
if you can log in as root from one machine to the other we are talking about
a mis-match in OS/arch that is causing a problem (i can't log into a FreeBSD
machine that runs 3.4 running version OpenSSH_2.1.1 from my Solaris 8 machines
running SSH 2.3.0) so there must be something configuration related that is
being overlooked.  although you _CAN_ log in as root.

i'm stumped.
