I just tried this and it still didn't fix it :(
Still core dumps.

would the -mv8 be a problem?  Does the IPX's cpu support version 8
instructions?

CALL FOR HELP:
If anyone has built OpenSSL (or Apache with SSL for that matter) on
a Sparcstation IPX I would really love to hear from you.
