You don't need slots to "have" sbus. An easy way to make a closed box from
an open one is to put the guts of each card on the motherboard, and wire
everything up the way it would be in the original slotted system. It works
pretty much the same (or better) electrically, but takes a lot less space.

There are plenty of examples of PCI and ISA being pressed into service in
weird physical form factors (cf. PCMCIA, CardBus) or being used directly
on motherboards (any PC motherboard with built-in sound or SCSI ...).
