Because our tar is really gtar, which is gpl'd. All the utilities on the
install media are munged into one binary. If we included a GPL'd program
in there, the whle thing comes under the GPL virus. :-(

Not yet. :-( There was talk about it, but I don't think it has been
completed. I think the long command line options (--foo-bar) were the
stumbling block.
