I've never had any trouble with it (mostly sparc, occasionally other
ports - i386 and sun3 seem likely).  Are you sure that (a) you have at
least one new device on the bus and (b) you're watching console output?
The former because already-found devices aren't mentioned and the
latter because the only messages generated normally go to the console,
regardless of whether that's got any relation to the tty scsictl is
being run from (if any).
