I have now managed to get the serial console working.

I have hardwired the DTE in both ends to give it's own hardware
handshaking by hardwiring the CTS to RTS and DTR to DSR. The DCD
line is also hardwired to DSR.

I am using a null-modem cable by connecting RxD to TxD and vice versa.

The terminal I am using is a serial connection from my NCD HMXpro
X-terminal using 8N1.

Initially I had a problem with logging in on this box, but I soon
realized what the problem was. I had set up my box up to use ttya
as *both* a console and a normal terminal. This made it act very
weirdly. Disabling ttya in /etc/ttys solved that problem.

So, now I am successfully using a serial console on this box.

I am normally running 1.4 GENERIC, but I have also tried the
1.4.1 GENERIC_SS2_CONSOLE that jonl@kudra.yubyub.net provided.
Both of them work fine for me.

Since this seems to be related to ROM revision, I can state that
mine is 2.4.1, and a full output from my serial console is given
later on in this email.
