On a low-cost box like this, it is more likely to be a limitation on
the amount of frame-buffer RAM provided.

NOTE that according to the Sun Web pages, the Ultra 5s support 24bit
depth at 1152x900; and drop to 8bit at 1280x1024.  (No 16bit is probably
a driver restriction.  But traditionally, few X11 apps have supported
16bit anyway.)
