I remember a bugfix in the XKB configuration section. Check whether your
X server now starts with the XKB extension enabled by default. If so,
the traditional repeat setting (`xset r on') does not work anymore
(don't ask me why..).

Instead, you can use the `-ar1' and `-ar2' X server options at start up.
I suppose there should also be a program to change the settings on the
fly, but I forgot which program that is.
