Great! I applied the patch against a current kernel (z8530tty.c rev. 1.54)
and my DCD problem mentioned in <19990113105935.A28626@serva.dahoam.de>
disappeared! The other problem mentioned in this message ("TIOCMGET
failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device") was solved after Christos Zoulas
did put back TIOCMGET support.

Now mgetty and pppd are happy without disabling DCD signals. It would be
fine if someone could merge the patch back into the current source tree...
