man 8 scsi

(Under the BUGS section)

"scsi -f /dev/rsd0c -c "4 0 0 0 0 0" permits anyone who can write to
/dev/rsd0c to format the disk drive.

NOTE to fixers -- The leading " shouldn't be there -- or better yet, change
to: "scsi -f /dev/rsd0c -c '4 0 0 0 0 0'" permits anyone who can write to
/dev/rsd0c to format the disk drive.

This works great for many disk drives (528, 518, 660, 104, 180, 280, ...).
Do not have the disk mounted when you send out the scsi command.

Do not format seagate ST34501's [4.5gb]. You end up sending them in for
repair -- and they ship different ones back to you (tried one with MacOS,
one with openbsd).

Actually, it would be nice to have a nice long list of possible things
to send out to do different things. Like -- I'd like to find out why I
can use a Sun CD rom drive, but not the Apple scsi rom drive... .
