Has anyone else had problems probing a standard Sun CD-ROM (model 411,
part number 595-1929-04)? It is, of course a fairly run-of-the mill
Sony CDU-8012 3.1a (according to the monitor probe-scsi report).

I get the following with both 1.3.1 and a kernel built from -current
sup'ed as of Tue Apr 21 11:42:04 GMT 1998:

probe(esp0:6:0): esp0: timed out [ecb 0xf06358a4 (flags 0x1, dleft 0, stat 0)], <state 2, nexus 0xf06358a4, phase(l 2, c 100, p 3), resid 10, msg(q 0,o 0) >
probe(esp0:6:0): esp0: timed out [ecb 0xf06358a4 (flags 0x41, dleft 0, stat 0)], <state 2, nexus 0xf06358a4, phase(l 2, c 100, p 3), resid 10, msg(q 0,o 0) > AGAIN
uk0 at scsibus0 targ 6 lun 0: <, , > SCSI0 0/direct fixed
uk0: unknown device

My real Toshiba XM-3301TA (with the appropriate jumper pulled so that
it'll even boot SunOS) on my server is recognized fine by 1.3.1.

I had hope to upgrade a test machine from a CD-ROM with 1.3.2
tonight.... :-(

I simply can't believe that if it needs a SCSI probe quirk that one
hasn't already been added. Does everyone throw their old hardware away
just because a new version that's 10 times as fast and 1/10'th the cost
is available? ;-) [The above doesn't look like this kind of problem to
me though -- but then I've never seen these problems before either, so I
probably wouldn't know what I'm looking at anyway.]

So, I guess instead I'll see if I can get around to building a -current
kernel from today's sup and see how that goes....

(FYI 1.3.1 did correct problems with the standard Sun QIC-150 tape
drive, the Archive Viper 150, as well as the Archive QIC 525MB tape.)
