Hm.  I'd hazard a guess of "memory fragmentation" more than "memory leak."
This happens to me a lot at work where we all are forced to use Solaris and
CDE... so I always log out at the end of the day so that the X server is
restarted.

By any chance, do you use one of these applications?
- LyX
- ApplixWare
- Anything VERY font intensive
