Someone suggested profiling the zs driver.  I'd have to
set the port at a much lower speed, of course, otherwise
the profiling code will steal even more time from the zs
driver and exacerbate the problem.

Or would I even be able to determine this at all?

Can one selectively profile-compile the kernel, or
does the entire thing have to be cc -p'd?

Another cc question:  If you compile a particular
file with -O4 and link it in with -O2, are there
any optimizations done whatsoever in the
compilation phase, and do they
carry over into the link phase?
