The TxD and RxD pins are just as prescribed. One pin is for receiving
data and one pin is for transmitting data. Whether you cross the
pins or use them straight thru is a cabling issue.

For most PCs, all you need is 2 and 3 crossed with 7 straight thru.
I believe this is called DTE wiring.
