   A generic SMP solution is in the works for NetBSD.

This is good to hear.

   The Linux SMP code, last I checked, was _totally_ different for the
   SPARC compared to the i386.

The architecture specific code yes, it is different.  But it plugs
into and works with the same generic layer SMP Linux code as the Intel
does.
