	It turns out that my problems were being caused by echo being
set on my modem.  This caused enough of an interupt storm that nothing
got processed.  At some point, something just dies, and the echo storm
stopped (which is why I didn't realize the problem until I caught it
happening) because the poor old Sun stops echoing (and dies).

	I'm not going to chase this one down right now.  I fixed the
echo on my modem.  As a side note, I was unable to get cur to talk to
the port as per the manual (I had to use my Amiga to adjust the
modem).

	As a complete aside, does anyone know how to get uucp to limit
the length of calls?
