This is an artifact of how NetBSD/sparc handled disklabel magic numbers.  
I think it's fixed in 1.1A (-current).  You don't really need to worry 
about it ... newfs(8) is just trying to update the partition type to 
FS_BSDFFS, which is what partitions (except b) default to under NetBSD/sparc 
(since Sun disklabels don't have an fstype associated with the partitions).
