With regard to the lockd stuff.  SGI, at least that part of SGI that I
have some imfluence over, is moving towards a model where we implement 
an idea and give away our implementation as part of a standardization
effort.

Lockd has always been a royal pain in the but.  Some of the best people
at Sun fucked it up several times; it wasn't because they were stupid, it
was because it is a hard problem.

If there are people out there willing to spend some time making it work,
I'd be willing to run it up the flagpole here to see if we could get SGI
to convert to a free lockd.  We might even be willing to do some work,
but don't count on it.

Also, don't under estimate the amount of work it will take to get locking
right.  It's a hard problem.
