Not to ask the obvious, but ...

Has anybody thought of cobbling up $350 and getting the Plan 9 CD-ROM, to see
what Rob Pike et al. did about this same problem?  (I know I've seen Charles
post to 9fans ... )  Since those bits are quasi-free, one could conceivably
learn from what they've done.
