   Is it the initial boot-time mount that fails? (would panic)
   Maybe one of your later mounts fails? (need -c option?)

You're are getting close...

Maybe I should be more clear on what I need to happen. When amd is
running on my netbsd-sparc machine I need it to do all mounts as if
they were invoked like this:

mount_nfs -P -c someserver:/some/dir /a/some/dir

and I cannot think of any way to do this without recompiling amd,
which I am in the process of doing at this point. By default
sunos4.1.3 machines do nfs mounting with the above characteristics,
and so does linux. I know because I have other clients running amd
without a hitch on these kinds of systems (sgi's and HP-UX machines
too).
