I would follow up on this as well:  Is anyone out there doing bootblock
development?  I noticed it was missing and was going to attempt it
myself.  However, I am *not* a kernel/asm wizard by any stretch of the
imagination, so someone else doing it would probably
        - save me much time and frustration
        - do a much better job

(though taking a shot at it is inarguably a fun challenge.)
