Sorry for mis-understanding Itojun. I didn't realize the history section
had the info I needed.  Indeed I now see sh3 does run on real devices!

What class of activity can a WinCE device owner like myself do to best
progress things for porting to these devices? If there is a way here
where I can experiment with an sh[34] kernel image and at least start
to gain an idea of device recognition via ddx sessions on a serial port
I'd love to help.

Another tack is for donations. Would loaner gear be useful to an experienced
coder? I can't give it away, but I may be able to arrange shipping costs to
and from somebody with skills and motivation. I have motivation, I lack skills.
