So it switched to 32bit colour and got stuck there.
How old it your kernel and userland? The bits and pieces for X in  
32bit were committed around July 25th. Or maybe I forgot to commit  
something, I'll have a look.

Please check what's going on when you see this - it may just be X  
taking its time.
If X thinks it's up and running you can get out with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
