The only think i can think to do is to compare the size of
netbsd-GENERIC32_IP2x and netbsd-GENERIC32_IP3x from the install
sets with the size of netbsd on the machine, and this suggests to
me that the installer did, in fact, put netbsd-GENERIC32_IP2x on
the computer.

So I've removed netbsd.ecoff and replaced netbsd with an
ungzipped copy of netbsd-GENERIC32_IP3x.

It boots further, but not completely.
