Looks like the machine is _not_ configured to serial console and just
runs a getty(8) on the serial port once it has booted to multi user. Try
to remove the GFX card. This should force the machine to serial console.
You will see very early after power on POST messages on the serial
console port. Usually you need to send a serial break to interrupt POST
/ boot.
