Extracting base.tgz on the SCSI disk multiple times?

As noted in doc/CHANGES-3.0, mips cache fixes have been pulled up
before RC2, and ahc fixes have been pulled up on RC5.
If you don't mind could you try RC2 (or RC3, RC4) kernel?
