Ah, actually, now that I look at the original error message from
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-sgimips/2004/04/22/0005.html (*), I
get a vague recollection that when I was doing the IP12 stuff (MIPS1),
csh didn't work, just dumped core (kernel didn't mind).  My workaround was
to use sh instead, and I guess I never looked into the problem further.

Just a data point, perhaps it'll spark some ideas in someone.
