I'm not; at one point I was convinced it was a 16*87* but I think that was
a touch of dyslexia and too much IP22 on my brain (which has a 1286, IIRC).
Then Chris pointed out the ds17287.h header file in IRIX, so "I believed" ;)

I haven't yet looked at my O2 system board, but the 17287 and 1678 both have
the same software interface for ~ all functions, so it shouldn't matter if
the system uses one or the other... Additionally, as  these chips have an
ID register built in, we should be able to tell in software which chip is
on the board 8-)
