There's also the cross-capable elf2ecoff which should be in the early
archives of the list and which I've used ever-since-when; it's basically
an enhancement to our elf2ecoff that auto-determines the endianness of
the host and/or the file and adjusts accordingly.

As far as the TLB misses are concerned, I know of no L2 cache issues on
R4400/R4000 boxes, so it could well be something else.  I wonder if it's
related to the serial-console stuff you were seeing earlier (and which I
haven't had a chance to look at in a loong time).
